I spent the early part of my career in the corporate world, working for companies like Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, and Sun Microsystems. I learned strong financial, legal, management, and people skills, as well as new technical skills. I ultimately managed organizations of over 50 people (including remote and distributed teams) and budgets of over $10 million.
I also worked in several venture-funded startups, as a software engineer, manager, and VP of Engineering. This experience taught me about rapid development, streamlined processes, and nimble teams.
With the knowledge and experience I gained in the corporate world, I went on to start several businesses, and worked with many small-to-medium business clients. I’ve written and reviewed business plans, developed technical specifications for websites, apps, and software projects, managed offshore development teams, and personally developed many thousands of lines of custom software for Internet and desktop applications.
I’ve also served as a board member and officer for several California corporations.
Working with small businesses has taught me things I didn’t learn in the corporate world, like keeping a tight rein on spending, and building close relationships with customers and clients.
More recently, I have been teaching upper-division and graduate courses in the Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied Data Science departments at San Jose State University. Teaching has helped me to refresh my technical knowledge, and practice coaching and mentoring skills.

Ratingz Inc – Co-founder, Corporate Secretary/Treasurer, VP of Operations. Ratingz operates a network of consumer “rating and review” websites.
Consumer Bankruptcy Counseling – Co-founder and developer of a web-based bankruptcy counseling service. At it’s peak, the site counseled 10% of the bankruptcy candidates in the United States.
Red Herring Communications – As VP of Engineering for RedHerring Online, led the development of core technologies for the RedHerring.com, StockMaster.com and JustQuotes.com websites.
InterSurvey – As VP of Engineering, led the development and deployment of the company’s core technologies. The InterSurvey system managed a panel of over 50,000 households who regularly participated in web-based surveys for consumer product companies.
Sun Microsystems – Senior Engineering Manager / Director for the ISP Hosting products, including the development of Solaris for ISPs, Sun WebServer, Sun Internet FTP, Sun Internet News Server, and related ISP products and technologies.
Silicon Graphics (SGI) – Managed the development, test and deployment of a commercial interactive television system for Cablevision of Long Island, and interactive games development for NTT in Tokyo.
Oracle Corporation – As Director of Multimedia Tools, I was responsible for the company’s multimedia tools strategy and development efforts.
